J-Chot Pimps Up The Flying Monkey

Saturday night at the Flying Monkey in Huntsville, Alabama I was privvy to witnessing the greatness that is a J-Chot techno show. Now I know what you're probably thinking- "Techno at The Flying Monkey? How does that work?" Quite well actually.

(True, The Flying Monkey in itself is seemingly this decrepid old building built back in 1901 as a shoe factory that was eventually abandoned, but the people that are currently in charge of the building are doing a great job of updating it, if not just a bit slowly, but with what is there already, the place holds an infinite number of future possibilities for individual artists.)

Back on the subject of J-Chot though, his show was quite something unexpected. I, having never been to a techno concert myself, had my own questions about how one was created and my boyfriend, being hired to do the sound that night, I actually got the chance to see first hand what goes into making a techno show at the flying monkey come together. With help from some of the other musicians (Decoy Inc., Juice, DJ Socky, also playing that night) J-Chot set up with his computer, a white sheet, a DVD player and a projection screen. What really surprised me was what the DVD player played...an array of random trippy cinema that I just couldn't tear my eyes away from. I have no idea where he got the footage from, but that stuff, alongside his music- completely amazing. It's soooo synched up it's like a large music video viewing. Which like I said was mezmerizing.

As for J-Chot's performance, he mixes all of his music on his computer as he performs and then does little random things, like throwing around fake money while wearing a large bandana on his neck printed with money, and a great captain's hat. It's always neat to see someone just act funny onstage because when some bands get super-serious, the show starts to lag.

I would highly recommend if you feel like dancing and live in Huntsville, go to a techno show at the Flying Monkey. Not only is there more space, there's also some quality music to dance to. For example: J-Chot's "Don't Take My Dude Fergie". I personally don't like Fergie and his mix of her "London Bridge" song in cohesion with the random background video is just something that made that sucky song like 10 times better. I really did perfer seeing that woman that looked like she came out of the 80's messing with her face much more than watching Fergie tramp around like a whore. We all know why Fergie's London Bridge was going down...eeewwww.

Try a new dose of techno today!

  • As it stands currently, our projected readership base for our print issues are confined to college students. With school being out for the summer it seems rather unwise to put out a print issue this summer with there being little or no prospects of a large readership.

  • We now have two NEW songs up guys. Well new as in just put up here, we made them back in 06

    enjoy!
